ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA IN BANKING

This program is appropriate for all people in banking, financial institutions and loan societies.

To graduate the Associate Diploma in Banking, candidates must gain a pass, cross credit or exemption for each of the following modules.

Total points required – 95.

ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS

The program is appropriate for all people in administrative, supervisory, commercial and industrial management. 

To graduate the Associate Diploma in Business, candidates must gain a pass, cross credit or exemption in the following compulsory modules:

And a sufficient number of elective Associate Diploma modules to aggregate 80 points.

ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA MODULES

Any of the Associate Diploma modules may be taken singularly to meet individual training and development needs.

DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS

To graduate Diploma in Business, candidates must have gained either the Associate Diploma in Banking or the Associate Diploma in Business, have passed both Fundamentals of Banking and Business Basics and a sufficient number of Diploma modules to aggregate 110 points.

ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN MANAGEMENT (ACM)

The Advanced Certificate in Management is based on the eleven ‘Frontline Management’ units developed by the Australian National Training Association (ANTA). IBBM has obtained copyright permission from ANTA to use the Frontline Management material to enhance management competence in PNG. The 3 Modules that lead to the AMC are

DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT

CERTIFICATE IN MICROFINANCE PRACTICE

The ‘Certificate in Microfinance Practice’ is awarded on satisfactory completion of the following microfinance courses and passing the prescribed examination. The pass mark is 60%.

Course MF2   Principles of Accounting
Course MF3   Microfinance Delinquency Management
Course MF4   Microfinance Financial Management
Course MF5   Introduction to MIS for MFIs
Course MF6   Microfinance Management Skills
 
The Certificate in Microfinance Practice counts 30 Points towards the Diploma in Business.



REGULATIONS
ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA IN BANKING - 
ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS
DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS

1. Entry Requirement

The Institute provides opportunity for people of all educational backgrounds to obtain professional qualification or gain knowledge and skills in areas relevant to their employment.  Consequently there are no educational prerequisites for entry to any course.

2. Assessment

The pass mark for each module is 60%, based on assignments and examination.
 70% of available marks for a subject achieves a pass with Credit
 80% achieves a pass with Distinction
 90% achieves a pass with High Distinction.

To gain
The Associate Diploma in Banking (with Distinction) or 
The Associate Diploma in Business (with Distinction) or
The Diploma in Business (with Distinction)
graduates must gain 7 or more subjects with Distinction or High Distinction and an aggregate average mark of not less than 85%.

Graduation is conferred twice per year at formal ceremonies at ToRobert Centre.

3. Credits and Exemptions

3.1 Credits

An Upper Pass, or higher grade, in a comparable subject, gained in a Diploma or Degree course of study through a recognised University or Professional Institution may permit a ‘Credit’ towards gaining either Associate Diplomas.

Application for Credit is to be made to the Manager Training and Educational Services - PNG Institute of Banking and Business Management Inc. in the prescribed format, supported by original documentation authenticating subjects passed.

3.2 Exemptions

Exemption from subjects for any Diploma may be obtained by passing a formal examination set by the Institute.  The pass mark of an exemption examination is 70%.
Exemption examinations are normally sat during February and August each year, or by arrangement with the Institute.

4. Sequence Of Study

4.1 The following guidelines are provided to assist in scheduling the sequence of studies in the Associate Diploma in Banking:
a. It is preferable for Fundamentals of Banking to be taken first.
b. Business Calculations is a prerequisite of Accounting.
c. Business Law and Accounting are prerequisites for Lending & Securities.
d. Business Communications is a prerequisite for Management 1.
e. Management I is a prerequisite for Management 2.

4.2 The following guidelines are provided to assist in scheduling the sequence of studies for Associate Diploma of Business Management:

a. Business Calculations is a prerequisite of Accounting.
b. Business Communications is a prerequisite for Management I.
c. Management I, or Introduction to Supervision, is a prerequisite for Management 2.

5. Frequency Of Modules

All modules are offered between two to four times each year according to demand.  Please refer to Schedule I.

6. Enrolments

Enrolment may be arranged at any time throughout the year but preferably at least 2 weeks before the commencement date of a module.
Approximately 2 weeks before a module is due to start, intending participants will receive details of any pre-course reading and/or assignments.
Intending participants are encouraged to liaise with their Course Coordinator towards preparing themselves for the Module.

7. Fees

The schedule of fees is provided as Schedule II.

Whilst it is most beneficial for participants to study each module ‘in residence’, this is not obligatory.  Residential fees include all costs of the course materials, twin-share accommodation, meals and laundry.  Non residential fees include all costs of the course and materials, lunches and morning and afternoon refreshments.
A 15% discount is available to Associate Corporate Members of the Institute and their staff and if fees are paid in advance for a full Associate Diploma program.
As a ‘Registered School’, the Institute’s training courses at ToRobert Centre are exempt from VAT. 

8. Qualification

Associate Membership of the Institute is conferred upon Associate Diploma graduates who have three years of banking or business experience.

Graduates who achieve the Associate Diploma in Banking with Distinction are eligible to proceed to the Massey University Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and MBA.
