Our History

The Institute of Banking and Business Management (IBBM) was established in 1965 by the Reserve Bank of Australia to provide training to the Banking and Finance sector in Papua New Guinea (PNG). It was incorporated as an Association under the PNG Association Incorporation Act as an Association of Members.

The Commercial Banks and the Central Bank have since then become the founding members. Hence IBBM is governed by a reputable board which comprises of all the CEO's and Managing Directors of all Commercial Banks with the Governor of the Central Bank being the Chairman. ExxonMobil PNG Ltd was granted a seat on the board as recognition to its continued support of the Institution through its partnership with the IBBM Enterprise Centre.
